Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, met on Saturday the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, in New York.
The two sides reviewed their stance pertaining to the latest developments of the Syrian crisis. Sheikh Abdullah was also briefed on de Mistura’s plan regarding the Syrian dossier, during the meeting.
Sheikh Abdullah emphasised UAE’s unwavering stance towards the ongoing conflict in Syria and ways to put an end to it through a comprehensive political solution.
He also met President of the United Nations’ 70th General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft.
Sheikh Abdullah extended greetings to Lykketoft on assuming the presidency of the UN General Assembly and renewed UAE’s commitment for cooperation on all topics on the 70th GA session agenda. He also wished him success in presiding over the session which coincides with the UN 70th anniversary.
Sheikh Abdullah met Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in New York.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 70).
