The Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces launched intense artillery offensive on Islamic State (IS) positions on the Bashiq frontline, north of Mosul.
Peshmerga Commander Najm Abdullah confirmed the reports and told BasNews that today August 30th, IS militants fired several missiles toward the Peshmerga positions from which no casualties were reported.
Abdulla declared that the Kurdish security forces, in response, shelled the insurgents’ positions in Iskhrap and Birhalan villages as well as inside Bashiq district.
BasNews has learned that six IS jihadists were killed during the assault and facilities destroyed.
The Peshmerga attack comes after the Kurdish forces started Southern Kirkuk operation against IS militants last week and liberated about 10 villages in the area.
