The Islamic State (IS) militants attacked Peshmerga positions in southern villages of Kirkuk, northern Iraq, early morning 6th July.
Peshmerga Commander Wasta Rasoul confirmed the reports to BasNews and said that the jihadists attacked Homera, Rashad, Nawafl, Yarmouk and Murra villages in southern Kirkuk on Monday morning, but they were immediately repelled by the Peshmerga.
Rasoul explained, “IS militants took control of Murra village to begin with, but our forces retook the area later and drove the insurgents back.”
He also revealed that more than 100 jihadists were killed and a number of dead bodies have been seized by the Peshmerga.
BasNews understands that four Peshmerga lost their lives during the clashes.
