The President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman says that an independent state of Kurdistan will be declared“sooner or later”.
Speaking on the Czech Prima TV show on Sunday, Zeman said that the emergence of an independent Kurdistan is “only a matter of time.”
Regarding the Turkish role in the region, the Czech leader said that Turkey “has to decide whom it will join” in the Islamic State (IS) war.
“There is a saying: the enemy of my enemy is my friend,” Zeman said. “Turkish hostility towards the Kurds has resulted in its hesitation in the fight against IS.”
He went on to say that Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani has told him that he will, at some time, be ready to announce a referendum on Kurdish independence.
Zeman believes that Kurds are the only ground force which is actually at war with IS.
The Czech Republic is among the countries which have shown committed support for the KRG and Peshmerga forces in the fight against IS, from the very beginning of the conflict.
